This was the first face-to-face meeting between Albanese and Trump since their White House engagement in October 2025. Trump explicitly rejected what he called "globalist schemes" to regulate artificial intelligence, whilst Albanese has championed Australia's proposed digital duty of care reforms and social media regulations, noting that the European Union and over 20 countries have pursued similar measures. The Prime Minister is scheduled to address the UN later in the week and will receive the Atlantic Council's Global Citizen Award on Wednesday evening.
