President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham met face-to-face for the first time on Tuesday at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During their encounter, Trump launched into familiar criticism of the media, which he had been emphasising following his administration's banning of CNN, MSNBC and Politico from the White House. Body language expert Judi James observed that Burnham appeared increasingly uncomfortable and displayed gestures suggesting he wished to distance himself from Trump's animated media tirade.

According to Ms James's analysis, Trump's handshake with Burnham was characterised as a deliberate "power gesture" executed with speed and strength, despite appearing outwardly friendly. In contrast, Burnham's body language throughout the encounter suggested nervousness, including repeated hair touching, finger fiddling and playing with his wedding ring. Ms James noted a marked disparity between Trump's physically confident and animated posture and Burnham's noticeably more restrained and guarded stance, with the Prime Minister adopting a defensive posture with clasped hands and crossed fingers.
