Steven Spielberg’s *Always*, a heartfelt fantasy melodrama about love, grief and redemption, will leave Netflix on 1 October. Although overshadowed by *Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade* when released in 1989, the film is presented as an underrated work that openly embraces classic Hollywood emotion and sincerity.

The film remakes the 1943 wartime romance *A Guy Named Joe* and stars Richard Dreyfuss as Pete, a daring firefighting pilot who dies and returns as a spirit guiding the living, including his grieving girlfriend Dorinda, played by Holly Hunter. With Audrey Hepburn in her final film role and supporting performances from John Goodman and Keith David, *Always* is praised for combining romance, drama, humour and aviation spectacle, even though Pete’s death is deliberately obvious.
