Stevie Nicks resisted being confined to one musical style, drawing inspiration from singers who took risks and followed their instincts. Although she initially wanted to become a traditional R&B singer, Linda Ronstadt showed her how country, rock and roll and soul could be combined creatively, helping shape Nicks’s artistic direction.

Nicks admired Ronstadt’s ability to move between genres and pursue less commercial projects without compromising her principles. She said Ronstadt was “very important” in forming her musical ideas, encouraging Nicks to add R&B influences to her country and rock background and trust her own vision, even when it conflicted with industry expectations.
