Journalist Luke Dittrich's longform article about Chris Hansen's "To Catch a Predator" and the suicide of assistant district attorney Bill Conradt has been adapted into a film titled "Primetime," which stars Robert Pattinson as Hansen and releases via A24. Conradt died by suicide during a Dateline NBC sting operation when the camera crew was preparing to enter his home in Murphy, Texas, after he was caught by watchdog group Perverted Justice. Dittrich's award-winning article, "Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die," examined the tragedy and its implications for the controversial true-crime show.

Dittrich received the assignment from Esquire nearly two decades ago whilst living in isolation in the Yukon Territory and had never watched the show previously. He conducted extensive reporting in Texas to explore the circumstances surrounding Conradt's death and interviewed Hansen for a contentious conversation that features in the article's final section. After publication, Dittrich moved on to other stories and remained largely unaware of the show's subsequent history. Years later, filmmaker Lance Oppenheim acquired the rights to his article and created "Primetime," a dramatisation featuring a script by debut screenwriter Ajon Singh that shares key elements with the original work.
