The 39th Tokyo International Film Festival has announced several cultural and educational programmes alongside its main competition. They include a 13-film retrospective of Mizoguchi Kenji marking 70 years since his death, a symposium on creating a new international anime award, and a 10th-anniversary event for the festival’s Teens Cinema Workshop.

The Mizoguchi retrospective runs from 27 October to 1 November, featuring English-subtitled and newly restored prints, including the first Japanese screening of a new restoration of *The Water Magician* (1933). Other events include an anime-award symposium at TIFFCOM on 30 October, a Teens Cinema Workshop celebration on 3 November, the launch of a planned TIFF Teens Cine Club, and a free international film-education symposium on 31 October. The main festival runs from 26 October to 4 November, with TIFFCOM taking place from 28 to 30 October.
