The Eagles performed at the 2016 Grammy Awards to honour Glenn Frey, who had died a month earlier, with Jackson Browne joining them for ‘Take It Easy’. Although the performance was well received, Don Henley later regretted agreeing to it because the band were still grieving and felt the appearance came too soon.

The ceremony also saw the Eagles finally collect the Grammy for Hotel California, which they had failed to accept in person after winning it in 1977. Henley said the band were still in shock and found the experience “too soon” and “too weird”, despite the album’s enduring reputation and Frey’s lasting musical legacy.
