SNP MSP Collette Stevenson faced widespread ridicule after asking during a televised Holyrood Transport Committee meeting whether Transport Scotland was a registered charity, sparking significant online mockery about her understanding of Scottish institutions. The five-year MSP's error generated satirical comments imagining her believing the Kingston Bridge linked Scotland to Jamaica and the Glasgow Subway was a sandwich shop.

Stevenson has since attributed the gaffe to a severe chest infection that affected her sleep and concentration, and has taken a week off Parliament on medical advice. Transport Scotland is actually a non-departmental government body and civil service agency, as the director Graeme Cook explained during the evidence session. Stevenson characterised some of the criticism as "misogynistic bullying" in a Facebook post, noting she engages regularly with Transport Scotland on projects such as the East Kilbride rail enhancement. The incident is one of several recent gaffes by SNP figures, including Transport Secretary Stephen Flynn missing news about a CalMac ferry gas leak because he was "FaceTiming my kids" and Rural Affairs Secretary Gillian Martin not realising the government owns 10 per cent of crofting land.
