Remy Ma released a new EP titled Alimony on 25 September, featuring the standout track "Rem the Pen," on which she name-drops her longtime rival Nicki Minaj and declares they will "probably never speak again." The song examines the state of women in hip-hop and celebrates other female rappers including Cardi B, Lil' Kim, Rah Digga, Missy Elliott and Monie Love, whilst addressing her strained relationship with Minaj through pointed lyrics.

The feud between the two artists dates back to 2007, when Remy perceived Nicki as dissing her on a mixtape. Although tensions eased after Remy's release from jail in 2014—even leading Remy to praise Nicki's 2016 BET Awards win—the conflict reignited in 2017 when Remy felt Nicki was taking subliminal shots at her. Remy responded with the scathing diss track "Shether" in February 2017, set to a Nas beat. Nicki, whose last album Pink Friday 2 topped the Billboard 200 in 2023, has not publicly responded to Remy's latest mention and is currently developing a new project.
