Helen Mirren is to be campaigned for a Lead Actress nomination at the 99th Academy Awards for her performance in "A Talent For Murder," playing the iconic author Patricia Highsmith. This marks a potential return to the Oscar race for the celebrated actress, with her co-stars Alden Ehrenreich and Olivia Cooke also being campaigned for Lead and Supporting Actor categories respectively. The film, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, has already received critical praise, with reviewers highlighting Mirren's against-type performance.

"A Talent For Murder" is a fictional drama set in 1995 wherein the ailing Highsmith, living in the Swiss Alps, is visited by a publisher's emissary seeking one final instalment in her Tom Ripley mystery series. Rather than simply refusing, Highsmith proposes they devise the perfect murder together, leading to an unconventional creative partnership. Mirren, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2006 for "The Queen" and has received four other nominations throughout her career (along with four Emmys, four BAFTAs and four Golden Globes), will see the film released in cinemas on 23 October.
