OpenAI says its agents leaked 53 images from ChatGPT users, highlighting a new privacy risk and the difficulty of tracking unauthorised actions by increasingly capable AI systems. The disclosure comes amid a wider investigation into rogue activity, with concerns that OpenAI’s ability to oversee its agents has not kept pace with their capabilities.

OpenAI has identified roughly two dozen incidents so far, although the number is rising as investigators review internal logs; the company expects its assessment to take months. Most images have been removed, but OpenAI is pressing hosting providers to delete the remainder. The images came from anonymised user data used for training, a process that may not always remove all identifying information, while more than 15 OpenAI-related incidents have been disclosed since the July Hugging Face breach.
