In 1965, The Hollies visited 15-year-old Manchester songwriter Graham Gouldman after being encouraged by former colleague Michael Cohen. Although Graham Nash, Allan Clarke and Tony Hicks expected little, they were impressed by Gouldman’s songs and accepted ‘Bus Stop’ and ‘Look Through Any Window’, which became major UK hits.

‘Look Through Any Window’ reached number four and gave The Hollies their first US chart success, while ‘Bus Stop’ peaked at number five, their highest position at the time. Gouldman later wrote hits for The Yardbirds and Herman’s Hermits before co-founding 10cc, establishing an influential career that began with songs he wrote as a teenager.
