Roberto Mancini has acknowledged possessing a "double contract" with Manchester City whilst managing the club, following the Premier League's finding that City breached financial rules. The revelation forms part of what could become the largest financial scandal in English football history, with City facing charges for failing to provide accurate details of player and manager payments over nearly a decade.

Der Spiegel revealed in 2018 that Mancini effectively doubled his base salary of £1.45m through payments for advisory work with an Abu Dhabi-based club whilst managing City. Mancini, who led City to their first Premier League title in 50 years in 2011-12 after the club's Abu Dhabi takeover in 2008, subsequently stated the matter "isn't a problem that concerns me", placing responsibility with City rather than himself. The club continues to deny wrongdoing, with its chair maintaining confidence in proving innocence as the Premier League's investigation remains ongoing.
