Royal Caribbean removed Costa Maya from Icon of the Seas’ itinerary after a maintenance issue kept the ship in Miami overnight. The ship was due to leave on Saturday, 26 September, but departed on Sunday instead, replacing the port visit with a sea day; the change prompted sharply mixed reactions among passengers.

A Reddit user who shared the passenger notice said compensation was at least US$300 in onboard credit, varying by cabin type. Some travellers welcomed the credit and missed stop, describing Costa Maya as small, run-down and limited in things to do near the port. Others were disappointed to lose planned excursions, including a visit to the nearby Chacchoben Maya ruins.
