Former Manchester City youth player and England Under-18 captain Courtney Meppen-Walter has died aged 32, his former club Bury announced. The club paid tribute to him and offered condolences to his family and friends; no details about the circumstances of his death have been released.

Meppen-Walter was jailed for 16 months in 2013 after causing the deaths of Kulwant Singh, 32, and his sister Ravel Kaur, 37, in a high-speed crash in Manchester; he served half the sentence and was released by City. He later played for Carlisle United and a number of non-league clubs, including Bury. In 2019, he was banned from driving for 22 months after being convicted of drink-driving.
