JLR has revealed the all-electric Range Rover Sport, a high-performance SUV that uses the larger Range Rover Electric’s powertrain at a lower starting price of £109,810. The model could be significant for the company as it faces pressure, including a plan to cut 4,000 jobs over the next two years, and Sport sales often approach those of the flagship Range Rover.

Its 118.5 kWh battery is claimed to provide up to 374 miles of WLTP range, or roughly 320 miles on the stricter EPA test; rapid charging can add 136 miles in 10 minutes in ideal conditions. The SUV produces up to 550 PS and 850 Nm of torque, reaches 60 mph in 4.3 seconds in Dynamic Launch Mode, and can wade through 900 mm of water. It will compete with electric SUVs including the Porsche Cayenne Electric, which starts about £20,000 below the Sport; JLR will continue offering hybrid, petrol and diesel versions too.
