A father and his two sons have gone on trial in Hong Kong for the murder and dismemberment of Abby Choi, a 28-year-old model and influencer whose remains were found in a suburban house in February 2023. The case has attracted significant attention in Hong Kong, where violent crime is relatively rare, particularly given Choi's high profile with over 140,000 Instagram followers and recent appearances at Paris Fashion Week. All three defendants pleaded not guilty to murder charges and face life imprisonment if convicted, though two of them admitted to preventing the lawful burial of a body.

Prosecutors allege that Kwong Kau, a 68-year-old retired police sergeant, masterminded the killing following financial disputes with Choi over a luxury property worth HK$60 million (£6.3 million) that she had attempted to sell. Choi had originally registered the flat under Kwong Kau's name to avoid higher taxes, but sought to sell it years later, prompting him to become "extremely resentful and angry." The prosecution claims all three men conspired together and each played a part in her death and disposal of her body. The trial, which began Wednesday with a nine-person jury, is expected to continue until December.
