The Hackney Islamic Community Centre, a London mosque with charitable status, faces investigation by the Charity Commission after the National Secular Society reported it for publishing sermons containing deeply problematic content. The centre's videos include lectures encouraging husbands to physically "discipline" wives who refuse sexual relations or disobey them, as well as content describing homosexuality as "one of the most evil acts" worthy of capital punishment under Sharia law.

Teacher Yasin Munye delivered the controversial lectures, citing religious texts that classify wife disobedience and homosexuality as major sins, and describing various execution methods used in certain countries. A mosque elder separately expressed concern that women now feel empowered to report domestic violence to police. As a registered charity, the Hackney Islamic Community Centre is eligible for significant tax exemptions and received £191,097 in income during the year to March 2025, including nearly £155,000 in direct donations. The organisation recently re-registered as a charitable incorporated organisation in April 2025, which allowed it to own property whilst remaining governed by charity law.
