RAM supply set to worsen, says Micron, as CEO celebrates ‘much higher’ prices

The Register · 3 hours ago

Micron says shortages of RAM are likely to continue through 2028 and may last longer, with supply expected to fall further behind demand in 2027 and 2028. The warning matters because the company has already sold most of its planned memory output for next year and expects customers to pay much higher prices.

Micron plans to bring new factories online in 2028, but says they will not quickly improve availability or lower prices. Its fourth-quarter revenue was $54.25 billion, compared with $11.3 billion a year earlier, while annual revenue reached $133.2 billion; gross margins rose to 83 per cent for cloud memory and 90 per cent for datacentre memory. The company forecast first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion.
