Mom celebrating her 8-year-old son’s birthday at trampoline club is shot and killed by her ex-husband who crashed the party, police say

Samantha Lee Cromwell, 29, was shot dead outside a Sacramento trampoline park during her son’s eighth birthday celebration, police said. Her ex-husband was arrested on homicide charges, and the case has renewed attention on the impact of alleged domestic abuse on families.

Police said a second woman was also shot and remains in critical condition. The suspect, Edward Lee Daniel Tucker Jr, 36, faces felony charges including murder, attempted murder and firearm possession by a felon, and is being held without bail. Cromwell and Tucker shared an eight-year-old son, who is now being cared for by her stepfather; the investigation is ongoing.
