Man charged with murder over fatal assault on Tube platform

A 38-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Thomas Jewitt, who died three days after an alleged assault on a Central Line platform at Liverpool Street station. Jewitt, 32, was travelling home from Notting Hill Carnival and was due to marry next year; the case has been upgraded following his death.

Jeremiah Maximo, from Barking, appeared by video at Inner London Crown Court and was charged with murder, manslaughter and affray, having previously faced a grievous bodily harm charge. He was remanded in custody and is due back in court on 21 October. Police are appealing for witnesses, while Jewitt’s family described him as fun-loving, caring and kind.
