High-profile surgeon and former partner of ex-Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk working on ‘alternative resolution’ to rape case

Daily Mail ·

Reza Adib, a 65-year-old surgeon and former partner of ex-Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, is seeking an “alternative resolution” in a rape case. A court hearing was adjourned while prosecutors arranged to meet the woman who made the allegations, and the case is due back in court on 5 November.

Adib is accused of raping a Gold Coast woman at his Burleigh Heads apartment on 30 March 2026. He faces three rape charges, two charges of deprivation of liberty and one of sexual assault. He stopped practising after his arrest, and his medical registration was suspended in June; a coroner also criticised him over a letter used to support a patient’s access to superannuation for surgery before her death.

Reza Adib is a 65-year-old surgeon and former partner of Queensland's ex-premier Annastacia Palaszczuk. In March 2026, a Gold Coast woman made rape allegations against him, claiming the assault occurred at his Burleigh Heads apartment.

Adib faces three rape charges, two charges of deprivation of liberty, and one charge of sexual assault. He stopped practising medicine following his arrest, and his medical registration was suspended in June.

Separately, a coroner has also criticised Adib over a letter he wrote that was used to support a patient's request for early superannuation access for surgery before her death. The case is scheduled to return to court in November.
