Four Americans have been identified as victims of an explosion at a residential building in Athens, Greece. The blast demolished a two-storey Airbnb in Plaka on Friday morning, killing six people in total. The dead include siblings Florida Hoxha, 34, and Florin Hoxha, 36, along with their respective partners: Ian Kirkpatrick, 37 (Florida's husband of 25 days) and Eris Cani, 39 (Florin's partner, who was five months pregnant). The tragedy has devastated their surviving family, particularly their brother Klajd, who was supposed to join the trip but did not.
The four had been on holiday as part of an annual vacation and had checked in for a 3pm Delta flight returning to New York on Friday afternoon, though they never boarded. The US Embassy in Greece contacted the family to inform them of the deaths. Klajd described the harrowing moment of learning the truth whilst flying to Athens with family members, recounting the overwhelming grief of losing half his immediate family.
