AC/DC and Foo Fighters Deliver Epic Night of Rock ‘n’ Roll at MetLife Stadium: Review, Photos, Video + Setlists

Consequence ·

Foo Fighters stepped in as the opening act for AC/DC at MetLife Stadium after a storm forced the original show to be postponed and The Pretty Reckless could not make the rescheduled date. The unusual pairing brought two major rock acts to the same bill, with Dave Grohl joining AC/DC for “Highway to Hell”.

Foo Fighters played a nine-song set of hits, including “Everlong”, while AC/DC performed for more than two hours. Highlights included “Back in Black”, “Thunderstruck” and “Let There Be Rock”, which featured an extended Angus Young guitar solo; the show ended with “T.N.T.” and “For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)”, accompanied by cannons and fireworks. Brian Johnson, 78, was praised for his powerful singing after earlier hearing problems had threatened his career.

AC/DC and Foo Fighters are rock bands with decades-long careers and large audiences. AC/DC, formed in Australia in the 1970s, are known for guitar-driven songs such as “Back in Black”; Foo Fighters were formed in the United States in the 1990s by Dave Grohl, previously the drummer for Nirvana.

AC/DC’s current singer, Brian Johnson, joined the band in 1980 after the death of original vocalist Bon Scott. Hearing problems later forced Johnson to step away from touring for a time, making his return to the stage a notable part of the band’s recent history.
