Hyundai opens UK orders for Ioniq 3, priced from £18,495
Hyundai has opened UK orders for its all-electric Ioniq 3 hatchback, with prices starting at £18,495 after a £3,750 government grant. Its low entry price and compact design target everyday European driving, while strong pre-launch interest suggests it has attracted attention ahead of its arrival.
The Advance model has a 42 kWh battery and a claimed range of 213 miles; the £31,945 N-Line Evo has a 61 kWh battery and up to 308 miles. The car uses a 400V system and can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in about 29 minutes. Hyundai has no plans to sell it in the US, where Turkish production could expose it to tariffs and weaken its price advantage.

Hyundai has begun accepting orders in the UK for a new small electric car called the Ioniq 3. This is significant because affordable electric vehicles remain scarce, and the company is positioning this model for everyday drivers who want to switch from petrol or diesel cars without substantial extra expense.
The cost of electric cars has been a major barrier to their adoption. Although the government offers a £3,750 grant towards electric vehicle purchases, many models still cost considerably more than equivalent petrol-powered hatchbacks. Starting at £18,495 (before the grant), the Ioniq 3 is cheaper than most rival electric cars currently on the market.
Hyundai is offering two versions of the car. The base model has a battery capable of delivering 213 miles of range, whilst the higher-specification version can travel up to 308 miles. Both can regain most of their charge in roughly half an hour, which improves their practicality for longer journeys.
