Oregon's Washington County Sheriff's Office implemented an enforcement strategy using bait bicycles to combat property theft in Aloha, a community west of Portland. Beginning in mid-April 2026, deputies placed specially equipped bikes at multiple locations throughout the area to identify and apprehend individuals involved in bicycle and property theft.

The operation demonstrated rapid results, with at least 34 arrests made within the first three months of deployment by early July 2026. Sheriff's office officials characterised the bait bike initiative as an effective tactic for reducing theft in the community, suggesting the approach merits continued consideration as a public safety tool.
