‘Red Queen’ Author Officially Confirms New Adult Fantasy TV Series
Victoria Aveyard, known for her bestselling YA fantasy Red Queen series, is moving into adult fiction with a new novel set during the Golden Age of Piracy. Titled Tempest and due in September, the story follows a former noblewoman-turned-pirate-tavern-keeper navigating conflict between personal loyalty and survival when an empire's navy threatens the marauders of the sea.
Before the book's release, Chernin Entertainment has already secured television adaptation rights. Executive producers Peter Chernin, Tracey Cook, Rachel Moore, and Aveyard will oversee the project, though creative attachments remain unannounced. The development pace contrasts sharply with Aveyard's Red Queen television adaptation, which has remained stalled at Peacock despite five years of effort and backing from Elizabeth Banks and former Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz.
- Victoria Aveyard's new adult fantasy novel Tempest is being adapted for television by Chernin Entertainment
- The pirate-adventure story releases September 2026 and centres on love versus duty
- Tempest's adaptation moves quickly compared to Aveyard's Red Queen project, which has been in development for five years without materialising
