Makoto Shinkai's 2016 anime Your Name is returning to theatres on August 14 in a newly remastered 4K format distributed by GKIDS. The film achieved historic status by becoming the highest-grossing original Japanese animated feature worldwide, surpassing Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away with approximately $400 million in global revenue. The narrative follows two high school students whose lives become intertwined through an unexplained body-swapping occurrence that forces them to navigate each other's worlds.

The theatrical re-release will offer both the original Japanese audio with English subtitles and an English-language dub. A 4K Ultra HD physical media edition will launch on August 25 for home viewing. The film's commercial and critical success established Shinkai as a leading figure in contemporary animation, building momentum from his earlier works that had already garnered significant industry recognition.
