Zendaya explains freezing up on first day of Nolan’s Odyssey shoot

The Hollywood Reporter · 22 hours ago

Zendaya has explained why she fluffed her lines on her first day of filming Christopher Nolan's forthcoming adaptation of The Odyssey. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Emmy-winning actress said a combination of first-day nerves on a Nolan set and freezing weather in Iceland left her briefly unable to deliver her dialogue. The anecdote offers a light behind-the-scenes glimpse ahead of one of the year's most anticipated blockbusters.

Zendaya, who plays the Greek goddess Athena, admitted she had "psyched herself out" after being determined to know her lines perfectly, and that the cold literally froze her mouth so that "nothing" would come out. She added that sharing scenes with long-admired co-stars was "a pleasure and a gift", requiring her to compartmentalise and focus on the work. Based on Homer's poem, the film follows Odysseus (Matt Damon) as he journeys home to his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland), and also stars Lupita Nyong'o and Robert Pattinson. It reaches cinemas on 17 July.
