Instruments from Brassed Off stage show to reach young musicians in Kenya

feeds.bbci.co.uk · 18 hours ago

A theatrical adaptation of the 1996 film Brassed Off will see its performance instruments repurposed for music education in developing countries. After the Leeds Playhouse production closes, the period-appropriate brass and woodwind instruments sourced by Dave Walker of the All Brass & Woodwind shop will be collected and sent to young musicians in Kenya and Cape Verde.

Walker, who regularly restores donated instruments through his foundation, views the initiative as part of a broader commitment to expanding musical opportunity globally. Rather than allowing instruments to become discarded, he advocates for their reuse in communities where such resources are scarce, enabling aspiring musicians access to quality instruments they might not otherwise afford.
