The Tatas business dynasty to become multi-season Indian biographical drama series

Variety · 15 hours ago

India's T-Series Films and Almighty Motion Picture, the team behind the Amazon MX Player hit "Made in India: A Titan Story", are reuniting for "The Tatas", a multi-season drama chronicling one of India's most prominent business dynasties. The project adapts Girish Kuber's award-winning book "The Tatas: How a Family Built a Business and a Nation" and is now moving into active script development, signalling a major biographical drama about the family widely credited with shaping modern Indian industry.

The series will span four generations, beginning with founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata and the origins of Tata Steel and the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, before moving through Sir Dorabji and Sir Ratan Tata, J.R.D. Tata's decades leading ventures such as Air India, Tata Motors and Tata Consultancy Services, and finally Ratan Naval Tata's global expansion of the conglomerate. Karan Vyas, writer of "Made in India", is attached to adapt the book. The companies acquired the rights in 2022, with director and casting attachments expected later this year, though a streaming platform or broadcaster has not yet been confirmed.
