Megalodon Driver Kit takes iFixit beyond gadget repairs

The Verge · 10 hours ago

iFixit, the company best known for its gadget teardowns and electronics repair toolkits, has announced a new $34.95 kit aimed at general household repairs and DIY projects rather than fixing electronics. Called the Megalodon Driver Kit, it is designed for tasks such as repairing appliances and assembling flat-pack furniture, marking a move beyond the firm's traditional focus on opening up gadgets.

The kit's centrepiece is the Megalodon driver, which features a blue "Swivel Grip Cap" that lets the shaft spin freely for quickly removing screws when held in place, or locks down when pushed to apply extra torque for tightening. It ships with 16 hand-selected bits on longer 2-inch shanks to reach recessed fasteners, spanning Phillips, flathead, hex, square and TR types plus a quarter-inch socket adapter. Everything is stored in a labelled foam tray inside a plastic case whose magnetic lid doubles as a tray for loose screws.

  • iFixit's new $34.95 Megalodon kit targets home repairs and furniture assembly.
  • Its driver switches between free-spinning and locked modes for torque.
  • Includes 16 extended-reach bits and a magnetic sorting case.
