BBC Sport · 2 months ago

Britain's Alfie Hewett has reached the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon wheelchair singles for the 10th time, continuing his pursuit of a second title at the tournament. The second seed made a strong start with a 6-1 6-3 win over Tom Egberink of the Netherlands, though his compatriot and doubles partner Gordon Reid was knocked out in the first round.

Hewett, 28, who made his Wimbledon debut in 2016 and completed the career Grand Slam in singles with his 2024 SW19 victory, will next face Ji Zhenxu for a place in the semi-finals. Reid was beaten 6-3 6-1 by world number one and defending champion Tokito Oda, who played with a specially painted white wheelchair as a nod to Wimbledon's all-white dress code. Reid and Hewett begin their doubles campaign on Wednesday.
