Chappell Roan Makes Her Confession During Rosalía’s Oakland Show: ‘That Turned Into a Song’

Billboard · 2 months ago

Chappell Roan made a surprise appearance during Rosalía's "La Perla" confessional segment of her Lux Tour at Oakland Arena on Monday night (6 July). Invited on stage by the Spanish star, the "Pink Pony Club" singer opened up about a past romantic disappointment that she said had gone on to inspire a song, adding to a run of high-profile guest confessions that has become a talking point of the tour.

Roan, who told the crowd she had flown in from Missouri, described a pandemic-era flirtation that developed through months of online contact before an in-person date in Los Angeles, saying she was "floating" after they kissed. She recounted that the person went quiet for four days and then told her "I met someone," later relaying through a mutual friend that they knew they should care but did not, and viewed the connection as "just casual." Roan revealed the experience became a song, quoting the line "They said that they can turn their emotions on and off like a faucet," after which Rosalía dedicated "La Perla" — a track about "a real piece of work" — to her. Roan joins previous confessional guests including Karol G and Marcello Hernández.
