Ben Folds Five are marking the 30th anniversary of their 1995 self-titled debut album with a newly remastered reissue, due for release on 4 September via Capitol/UMe. The edition pairs the original record with a previously unreleased early version of the album, titled Shelved First Attempt, drawn from Ben Folds's personal archives, offering fans a glimpse of how the band's debut might have sounded.

The Shelved First Attempt disc features earlier takes of tracks such as "Underground," "Julianne" and "Philosophy," alongside "Boxing" and "Evaporated," which later appeared on the band's 1997 commercial breakthrough Whatever and Ever Amen. It also includes rarities like "Emaline," "Dick Holster" and "Eddie Walker." The anniversary edition will be issued on CD and vinyl, with both the remaster and the unreleased version available to stream and download. Folds, bassist Robert Sledge and drummer Darren Jessee are also set to reunite for their first live performances in over 13 years next year.
