British Airways flight from Barbados ‘is cancelled after aircrew enjoyed vodka and beer drinking session at £500-a-night honeymooners’ resort’
A British Airways flight from Barbados to the UK was reportedly cancelled after members of its cabin crew were said to have taken part in a heavy drinking session at a £500-a-night honeymoon resort the night before they were due to fly. The incident left up to 336 passengers stranded in the Barbadian capital, Bridgetown, and has prompted the airline to suspend four staff and launch an investigation, raising questions about crew conduct and the reputational and commercial cost to BA.
According to reports, one stewardess was said to have been sick in the bar and a steward to have collapsed and been put to bed during the vodka and beer session. Flight BA254, due to depart at 4.40pm on Sunday and land in the UK at 6.20am on Monday, was cancelled once the party came to bosses' attention, and the entire crew had to be flown home as passengers over the following days. A source told The Sun that some of the crew had "behaved in a manner that did not befit British Airways", with the four suspended members understood to have arrived back in the UK in the early hours of Tuesday.
