Netflix has announced a new feature-length documentary, Big Chicken: A Fast Food Conspiracy, starring British comedian Mo Gilligan, in which he eats nothing but fried chicken three times a day for 28 consecutive days. The premise closely echoes Morgan Spurlock's 2004 Oscar-nominated film Super Size Me, in which Spurlock ate only McDonald's for 30 days and suffered serious health consequences. The Hollywood Reporter notes the strong similarities, and Netflix did not respond to its request for comment on them.

Made by production company Mindhouse — behind the recent Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere — the film is billed by Netflix as a "bold experiment" and lands on 5 August. It follows Gilligan from South London to the United States as he explores the history of fried chicken and the social, economic and industrial forces behind its mass consumption, alongside its effects on health and the planet. As a Black British comedian, Gilligan also aims to challenge negative stereotypes about the dish and examine its cultural appropriation. The article notes Spurlock himself made a chicken-focused sequel, Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!, in 2017; he died in 2024 from cancer-related complications.
