‘Succession’ Director Andrij Parekh to Helm ‘The Retrievals,’ Netflix Series About Real-Life IVF Scandal From ‘Maid’ Creator

Variety · 3 hours ago

Emmy-winning "Succession" director Andrij Parekh has revealed that he will direct two episodes of "The Retrievals," an upcoming Netflix series about a real-life fertility scandal. Speaking at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Parekh confirmed he will also serve as cinematographer on the first episode, with shooting due to begin this autumn. The project marks a notable addition to a prestige drama adapted from acclaimed source material.

The series is written and executive produced by Molly Smith Metzler, creator of "Sirens" and "Maid," and is based on the hit podcast by Susan Burton. It follows one woman's campaign against a fertility centre that carried out procedures on her and nearly 100 other women without anaesthesia. During the festival panel, Parekh discussed his long association with HBO on "Succession" and "House of the Dragon," and voiced hope that the pending Paramount-Warner Bros. merger would "leave it alone." Fellow panellist Sharon Horgan, the "Bad Sisters" creator, echoed concerns about HBO's future and previewed her own forthcoming HBO series, "Youth."
