Emmys: ‘Hacks’ Breaks Comedy Series Record In Final Season; Fellow Departing Shows ‘Euphoria’, ‘Stranger Things’ & ‘The Boys’ Also Get Nominations
HBO Max's comedy Hacks has set a new Emmy record, securing 24 nominations for its fifth and final season — the most a comedy series has ever received in a single year. The tally surpasses the previous record of 23, held jointly by FX's The Bear (2024) and Apple TV's The Studio (2025), and marks a fitting send-off for a show that has been an awards favourite since its debut.
Hacks, starring Jean Smart, has been a consistent Emmy performer, earning 15, 17, 16 and 14 nominations across its first four seasons before nearly doubling its 2025 haul this year. Its Season 5 nods include fifth consecutive nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series and Lead Actress for Smart, who has already won that category four times. Several other departing series were also recognised: Netflix's Stranger Things gained seven nominations (bringing its total to 64), HBO's Euphoria took seven for its final season with Zendaya nominated again, Prime Video's The Boys received five in crafts and stunts categories, and Peacock's Ponies earned one for title design. The Bear, meanwhile, will make its Emmy farewell in 2027 owing to eligibility timing.
- Hacks wins 24 Emmy nominations, a single-year record for a comedy series.
- The final season also beats Schitt's Creek's farewell-season record of 15.
- Stranger Things, Euphoria, The Boys and Ponies also earn final-season nods.
