Radie Peat, the singer of Dublin experimental folk group Lankum, has released her first-ever solo single, a rendition of the traditional Irish ballad "Still I Love Him". The release extends Lankum's signature blend of stark, doom-laden and experimental takes on traditional Irish folk music, showcasing Peat's distinctive, clear voice on a slow and sparse arrangement about self-torment for love.

The song was sourced from the Traditional Music Archives by Peat's friend, musician John Francis Flynn, and comes with a video directed by Robbie Mailer-Howat. "Still I Love Him" is out now on Rough Trade, and Peat has scheduled solo live shows in London (Union Chapel, 3 November), Dublin (Vicar St., 20 November) and Amsterdam (Paradiso, 31 January). Lankum were most recently heard collaborating with Fontaines D.C.'s Grian Chatten on the Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man soundtrack.

Radie Peat is best known as the singer of Lankum, a Dublin band that has become one of the most acclaimed acts in Irish folk music by taking old traditional songs and reworking them into something darker, slower and more experimental than the genre's usual sound. Peat has always sung as part of that group, so a solo release from her is a notable step outside that collective identity.

Her debut solo single is a version of "Still I Love Him", an old Irish ballad about heartache, which she recorded with help from fellow musician John Francis Flynn, who found the song in an archive of traditional music. It has been released by Rough Trade, a well-known independent record label, and Peat will play a handful of solo shows in London, Dublin and Amsterdam later in the year and into early next year.

The release sits alongside Lankum's own ongoing work, including a recent collaboration with Grian Chatten of the band Fontaines D.C. on music for a Peaky Blinders spin-off, giving some sense of the wider musical circles Peat and her bandmates currently move in.
