Candice Bergen dishes on dates with Donald Trump and Henry Kissinger
Actress Candice Bergen has spoken about dating both Donald Trump and Henry Kissinger decades before either became prominent political figures, sharing the recollections on Ted Danson's "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" podcast. The 80-year-old, best known for "Murphy Brown", described her single outing with a young Trump as memorably brief, saying she was home by nine, while remembering Kissinger as the far more agreeable companion.
Bergen recalled that Trump collected her around 1964, when she was about 18 and a student, allegedly arriving in a maroon limousine with a matching suit, vest and patent leather boots; she has recounted the same short date previously to Stephen Colbert and Harry Connick Jr. Trump himself once told the Boston Globe that Bergen was "so beautiful" and that she had "the good sense to say, 'Absolutely not.'" She met the late Henry Kissinger, the former US Secretary of State, through her parents, and described him as charming, exceptionally intelligent and possessed of great manners, recalling that he took her to dinner at producer Robert Evans' house.
