Amazon is advancing Alexa's technical foundation through a project called Moonraker, which would enable the voice assistant to process complex, multi-step user requests—for instance, simultaneously booking a ride and sending a message. This capability upgrade aims to match competing agentic AI systems developed by other major technology firms. The initiative involves utilising hundreds of graphics processors and leveraging advanced AI models for development and testing.

Financial projections have emerged as a constraint on the project's scope. Internal documents estimate first-year GPU infrastructure costs will exceed $100 million, leading some senior leaders to question whether Amazon's recent artificial intelligence spending has generated proportional returns. The concerns reflect broader challenges facing the current Alexa+ release, which launched nationwide earlier this year but has encountered user complaints regarding basic functionality, even as Amazon continues introducing personality modifications and additional service integrations.
