A new punk supergroup called Cretin Family has formed to headline an official 50th anniversary Ramones tribute show in Los Angeles, bringing together Rancid's Tim Armstrong, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and former Ramones bassist CJ Ramone, plus surprise guests. The one-off performance marks half a century since the release of the Ramones' self-titled 1976 debut, the album widely credited with helping ignite the punk movement, and unites some of the genre's most prominent modern figures to perform the band's songs together for the first time.

The show, billed as The Official Ramones 50th Anniversary Tribute, takes place at Hollywood Forever Cemetery on 30 August, with tickets on sale now and proceeds supporting David Agus MD Cancer Research at the Ellison Institute. Actor John Travolta will present the evening, which also features a double screening of the 50th anniversary edition of Carrie and his directorial debut Propeller One-Way Night Coach, alongside a DJ set from artist Shepard Fairey. To coincide, Rhino is issuing a limited picture-disc pressing of Ramones on 17 July and a coloured 2LP edition of Live At The Roxy, 8/12/76 on 31 July as part of its Spirit Of '76 campaign, while both Green Day and Rancid have prior Ramones ties through the 2003 tribute album We're A Happy Family.
