The Football Association of Ireland's General Assembly has backed a motion to proceed with the Republic of Ireland's upcoming Nations League fixtures against Israel, resisting mounting public and political pressure for a boycott over the conflict in Gaza. The vote, held at an Extraordinary General Meeting at the Aviva Stadium, passed by 75 votes to 32 with three abstentions, and matters because it gives the FAI board a clear mandate to fulfil its Uefa obligations despite strong opposition from campaigners and some members.

The EGM was triggered after more than 10% of FAI members opposed playing the games, though the result is non-binding on the executive. The FAI had warned that a boycott would cause "significant and lasting harm" to Irish football and risk a potential loss of 10.3m euros (£9m), with chief executive David Courell saying the body had "no choice". Both matches will be played at neutral venues: Ireland's home game behind closed doors in Backa Topola, Serbia, on 4 October, and Israel's home game in Debrecen, Hungary, on 27 October. Protests took place outside the stadium during the meeting, part of wider "Stop the Game" campaigning against the fixtures.
