Daily Mail · 1 month ago

A prominent Hamptons property developer, Peter Mangiameli, 57, has been arrested after allegedly crashing his 35-foot boat into a stone breakwater jetty while pulling into Sag Harbor Bay on New York's Long Island late on Sunday night. The head of the Hamptons Development Group is accused of steering the speeding vessel into the jetty after allegedly drinking tequila and frozen cocktails throughout the day, leaving several of his passengers seriously injured with broken bones. The case is notable for the alleged recklessness of a well-known local figure and the serious harm caused to those aboard.

According to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail, all eight passengers were flung violently around the boat on impact, with one suffering a leg and vertebrae fracture and another sustaining broken ribs. One passenger told police she recalled "a big boom and everyone going flying" before coming to and finding her injured husband on the floor of the boat. Mangiameli managed to bring the vessel to a local dock, where police helped the injured ashore just after 10pm. He is denying all the charges.
