Dame Sarah Storey, Great Britain's most-decorated Paralympian, has announced her immediate retirement from international competition. The 48-year-old cyclist has decided against competing at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, choosing instead to devote herself to improving Para-sport, which she believes has "stalled somewhat" since the London 2012 Games and still requires attention in many areas.

Storey began her career as a swimmer, competing at four Games and winning 16 medals in the pool, before switching to cycling ahead of Beijing 2008. In total she won 30 Paralympic medals across nine Games, including 19 golds, with her final eight titles claimed after becoming a mother. Lord Coe, former chairman of London 2012's organising committee, said her concerns "resonate hugely", while the British Paralympic Association has been approached for comment.
