Liberal frontbencher Andrew Hastie has publicly rejected Pauline Hanson's vision of an Australian "monoculture", accusing her One Nation party of attempting a "hostile takeover" of the centre-right. Speaking to Sarah Ferguson on ABC's 7.30, the West Australian MP and former special forces soldier warned against political extremes and argued that One Nation is not serious about governing, positioning himself as offering a "third way" as the minor party's support grows.

Hastie said he rejected both monoculturalism and some versions of multiculturalism, describing them as loaded political concepts. He argued that Australian identity should rest not on ethnicity or cultural background but on shared values and institutions — the English language, parliament, the rule of law, the judiciary and the national flag. He added that migrants from diverse backgrounds could retain their cultural heritage while embracing a common Australian identity.
