Tragic footballer Maddy Cusack’s inquest is delayed by five months – extending her family’s agony – after new medical evidence is submitted
The inquest into the death of footballer Maddy Cusack has been adjourned partway through proceedings after new medical evidence was submitted, meaning it will not now resume until December. Cusack, the former Sheffield United Women vice-captain, was found dead at her home in Horsley, Derbyshire, by her father, David Cusack, on 20 September 2023, aged 27. The delay of at least five months prolongs the wait for answers for her family, who had hoped the hearing would conclude this week.
The inquest opened at Chesterfield Coroner's Court on 30 June 2026, nearly three years after her death. Coroner Sophie Cartwright adjourned proceedings following the submission of the new evidence, which is understood to be of a medical nature. The family now face a further wait of at least five months before the inquest can be completed.
