An investigation into the 2022 Creeslough gas explosion in County Donegal, which killed ten people at a service station, has uncovered CCTV footage showing a person who appeared to be searching for a gas leak in the hours before the blast. Gardaí identified the recording during their long-running probe, and it is expected to feature at any future criminal trial, inquest or public inquiry; the individual is likely to be among those questioned. The revelations matter because they point to possible prior awareness of a gas problem at the site, nearly four years after the tragedy.

It has also emerged that a complaint about the gas system at the service station and adjoining apartment complex was made to the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) several years before the explosion, though the regulator has repeatedly declined to say what action it took, citing the ongoing Garda investigation. Meanwhile, four months after receiving the gardaí's final file, the Director of Public Prosecutions cannot decide on prosecutions because the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has yet to submit its report, and the HSA has refused to explain the delay, saying only that its investigation is at an "advanced stage". The developments come as bereaved families prepare to be briefed by investigating gardaí, with the HSA chief executive due to meet them in early July.
