The Wimbledon queue tent mountain: Discarded sleeping bags and camping gear left by fans piles up in park next to All England Club

Daily Mail · 3 hours ago

A large heap of abandoned tents, sleeping bags and camping gear has accumulated beside the famous Wimbledon Queue in Wimbledon Park, where thousands of tennis fans camp overnight to buy on-the-day tickets for the Championships. The designated donation point has become buried under discarded equipment, leaving volunteers and stewards to sort through the mess after campers head home, raising concerns about waste and the burden placed on staff.

While some tents are rescued and passed on to charity for reuse, much of the bedding and damaged gear is thrown away after being used only once. Staff members interviewed by the Daily Mail described some campers as "lazy" and "selfish" for dumping their belongings, and John, who collects reusable tents for the British Red Cross, noted the number of perfectly usable items left behind. Campers are encouraged to take their equipment home or leave reusable items in the designated donation area.
